Seer programs focus on developing meta-cognitive knowledge in its students rather than gathering factual knowledge. Seer has applied Two Dimensional Bloom’s Taxonomy (2DBT), which evaluates the extent to which our programs allow students to achieve their goals.
In his famous book “7 habits of Highly Effective People” Stephen Covey mentioned one of the habits as “Begin with the End in Mind”. Seer exactly follows it and therefore, before designing a program, its learning outcomes are articulated. To articulate the learning outcomes, job proficiencies are defined. It requires active involvement of the industry. Once the learning outcomes & job proficiencies are articulated, program design along with the curriculum is developed.
After defining the learning, it is absolutely critical to measure the outcomes. Or in other words, we need to measure if the program that we have designed will achieve the learning outcomes.
To measure the learning outcomes, Seer is proud to implement Two Dimensional Bloom’s Taxonomy (2DBT) to engineering education. It is an extremely simple yet powerful technique to keep the focus on the outcomes of the program. It helps in measuring the outcomes of a learning program. It also works as a guideline for instructors for creating the assignments/labs. An assignment is mapped to the below matrix in terms of which cognitive learning process is being used and which knowledge dimension is used to solve the problem. Ideally, as the course progresses, the matrix should be completely filled. Ideally, for a course, the lower right corner of the below table should have more labs/assignments/project in comparison to the top left corner.

Students can improve their skills by having 24×7 access to world class VLSI lab. Students invest 2/3rd of their time on doing, discussing & defending their lab or project work and hone their skills continuously.
In conventional model, the labs and practical are confined to college hours. Seer has overcome this hurdle by providing 24*7 accesses to state of art VLSI labs having industry standard EDA tools (e.g. Synopsys) to the students. Students can access the tools 24*7 from anywhere and enhance their skill set.  Seer has established continuous monitoring and license checking system to ensure that students use the lab for intended purposes and prevent any misuse.

Our learning system combines the advantages of classroom learning and online learning. Students not only learn at their own pace by viewing online lectures anytime, anywhere and any number of times, but also clear their doubts with instructors and peers on a secured discussion forum.
Traditional classrooms as well as online learning models havetheir own strengths. Therefore, Seer has taken the strong points of both the models to create a new model of learning – Blended or Hybrid learning. Learning can be divided into two parts – Knowledge & skill. In our M Tech programs at various University campus (e.g. JNTU Anantapur& Kakinada), students are provided with the recordings of the lectures from the industry practitioners. Therefore, they can view them any number of time independent of the class schedule to perfect their knowledge. At the same time, a class is always a heterogeneous group of students. Some students can faster while others learn at slower pace. In traditional classroom model, faculty or instructor usually explains the concept once. If a student has not been able to understand the concept, it becomes difficult for him to follow the class. However, in blended model of learning, he has the asset with him to view it as and when he wants and as many times he wants. Therefore class time is used more productively. They are leveraged to generate discussions, do labs, develop capabilities to explain & defend student work. Recorded lectures are also leveraged in the classes as a pointer to ask questions and clarification also. As 70% of their time, students invest in doing lab/project/assignment work, this model is also an excellent example of Flipped Classroom in action.

Therefore, three leading organizations: National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL – IIT Madras), Seer Akademi and the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) are collaborating to bring advanced content and course collateral to learners and institutions. Seer has agreed todevelopcourseware for advanced subjects inabove mentioned disciplines. 50 plus courses in these disciplines, with the help of 50+ industry experts and about 150-200 reviewers, are in various stages of development. Seer firmly believes that to teach technology, it needs to invest in developing & using the technology. Therefore, it keeps incubating new companies. It also encourages its students to come up with new ideas and realize their dreams to be an entrepreneur. It has enabled its students by providing templates for business plan for seed funding. If their business plan is approved, it provides initial funding to them to create POC (proof of Concept) and later it also helps them by connecting them with Venture Capitalists.
By the year 2020, India’s import bill for electronics will be three times more than that of oil & petroleum products. This is going to be one of the biggest economic threats for India. Therefore, India needs to encourage electronic product development & manufacturing ecosystem so that the imports can be significantly reduced.
Seer believes that if it wants to be in the business of education, it needs to be working on cutting edge technology. Therefore, it has been continuous efforts to incubate product development companies on continuous basis.
Seer has been encouraging students to take entrepreneurship and develop products for the future. It has developed a templatized approach (Link to template) to create the business proposal so that students can get the framework to start with. If their idea is approved, Seer supports them with seed funding and mentor them till they develop prototype. Seer also helps them connect with venture capitalist for further funding. Our target is to incubate 100 such ventures in five years, leading to a lot of electronics-related problems being solved.

6.1 Seer Incubation Center

Seer Akademi has been an excellent and inspiring incubation center. Seer not only provided the resources to build a startup but the much needed day to day mentorship for a first generation entrepreneur like me. My experience with Seer has been immensely positive. Incubation centers in general require a good team along with a good idea or prototype. I for one did not have a team or prototype to begin with. All I had was the desire and passion to start something new. I met all my team members while I was working on the prototype in the Seer incubation center.  Seer management provided valuable inputs and was thoroughly involved in the selection of the right candidates. I also met with number of industry experts through Seer when I was developing the first prototype. Their suggestions and insights were very helpful in shaping the product. I specifically remember a meeting an industry veteran. I gained a totally different perspective from that talk. It proved to be a critical piece of information in the product development process. Seer’s incubation model also allowed me to work part time for Seer along with working for my own startup. This provided me the much needed financial cover and helped sustain my basic needs. Sometimes this is the only reason why people don’t want to experiment or start something new. This one of a kind feature allowed me to meet my bills while pursuing my dream. Seer had also been very understanding and cooperative when our first prototype did not work out. We forged alliances and tie ups with other companies through Seer. This gave us access to experienced industry professionals and a new customer base. We tweaked our original product idea to fit the needs of a different market courtesy of the tie ups with other companies. We have continued to work in the Seer incubation center till date and are also working on a completely different idea and for a different market. This explains that Seer values the potential in an entrepreneur and not just the idea. I would recommend the Seer incubation center to a fellow entrepreneur in a heartbeat.

Incubation at Seer was an amazing and inspiring experience. The management team has been very supportive and was great at taking us through the learning process. We are an innovative concept dealing with multimedia features in digital books that specializes in Indian content. Our goal is to make access of books by Indian authors and in Indian languages easily accessible.
Important qualities which I acquired during this learning process are:

  3. Planning ( Roadmap derivation for meeting the deadlines, which needs backward planning of workload)

These drivers & proficiencies determine the program objectives and learning outcomes. These objectives and learning outcomes determine the program design with the individual courses. Then, for each course, objectives & learning outcomes are defined. Objectives & learning outcomes of all courses in a program must ensure that program objectives & learning outcomes are achieved.
Seer Akademi has made historic donation of its curriculum and advanced pedagogy framework to IESA for use by its Core Initiative Group – Talent CIG (http://www.iesaonline.org/membership/talent_cig_activities.html). This is an effort from Seer to bring big change in Indian Education system. Talent CIG is taking the framework to colleges & Universities for adoption so that the effectiveness of the education system is significantly enhanced.
A pilot deployment is currently going on in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu using content developed for the NPTEL program. In the future, Seer envisions that the contents will be used by all engineering colleges in India. The seer course framework has been taken as reference and is being promoted by IESA.

National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science with the help of industry practitioners. Primary objective of the collaboration is to bridge the gap between industry and academia. It will also help large number of engineering colleges which do not have access to quality content to deliver courses effectively to their students.
